Festivals of Mithila symbolize the heart and soul of the place. They are directly connected to nature and have deep cultural significance. In this era of modernization, people of Mithilanchal preserve their culture by celebrating these local festivals with great enthusiasm.

Jude Sheetal (Maithil New Year)

Celebrated on 14th April, it marks the Maithil New Year. Elders shower water on the heads of younger ones, blessing them with coolness and peace in the summer heat. It is a festival of cleanliness and watering plants.

Chauth Chandra (Chaurchan)

An exclusive festival of Mithila dedicated to the Moon God. People worship the moon with 'Arghya' of curd in earthen pots and fruits. It is famous for its special food including curd and Pedukiya (sweet dumplings).

Sama Chakeva

A festival celebrating the bond between brothers and sisters. Celebrated in November, it involves folk theatre, songs, and clay idols of birds. Sisters pray for their brothers' long life, inspired by the story of Sama and Chakeva.

Jitiya

A rigorous fast observed by mothers for their children's well-being. It involves a 24-hour waterless fast (Nirjala) and is considered one of the toughest vrats.
